Overview
Effective healthcare marketing requires a strategic approach to audience targeting, relevant communication, and consistent engagement to strengthen awareness and generate meaningful interactions among healthcare professionals (HCPs).
A three-month digital campaign was conducted from July to September 2024 to improve brand awareness, recall, and engagement among healthcare professionals across India. The campaign targeted General Physicians, Consulting Physicians, ENT specialists, Gastroenterologists, and Pediatricians through a combination of digital content and multi-channel communication.
The campaign focused on two distinct audience segments: doctors already familiar with the promoted product and doctors who had not previously been matched with the existing target list. This dual-segment strategy aimed to strengthen engagement with the existing audience while expanding awareness among new healthcare professionals and generating qualified leads.
Campaign Approach
The campaign adopted an omnichannel digital engagement strategy to reach healthcare professionals through multiple digital touchpoints and deliver educational content consistently.
The key channels and content formats included:
- Mobile application
- Website
- Email communication
- SMS notifications
- Educational videos
- Articles
- Interactive quizzes
- Clinical case studies
The campaign divided its audience into two segments:
- Covered doctors: 6,084 healthcare professionals already familiar with the product and included in the existing audience overlap.
- Uncovered doctors: 352,867 healthcare professionals not matched with the existing target list, representing an opportunity to expand awareness and engagement.
Weekly educational content was distributed across the selected channels to maintain visibility, encourage interaction, and improve product awareness. The approach was designed to deepen engagement among covered doctors while introducing the product to a substantially larger uncovered audience.
Methodology
The campaign followed a structured methodology combining audience segmentation, targeted digital communication, educational content distribution, and lead verification.
The first step involved dividing healthcare professionals into covered and uncovered segments to enable focused outreach. The covered segment included 6,084 doctors, while the uncovered segment comprised 352,867 doctors.
An omnichannel communication strategy was then implemented through the mobile application, website, email, SMS, and WhatsApp. Weekly educational content, including videos, quizzes, articles, and clinical case studies, was shared to encourage interaction and reinforce awareness among the targeted specialties.
Campaign performance was evaluated using both qualitative and quantitative indicators. Qualitative measures included brand awareness, recall, and perception, while quantitative metrics included reach, impressions, clicks, and click-through rate (CTR).
The campaign also incorporated lead generation and tele-verification. Interested healthcare professionals were contacted to confirm their engagement and willingness to learn more about the product. This process helped identify qualified leads from the uncovered audience.
Result
Between July and September 2024, the campaign generated substantial reach, visibility, engagement, and qualified leads across both audience segments.
The campaign achieved:
Covered Campaign
- Reach: 6,084 doctors
- Impressions: 95,448
- Clicks/Interactions: 15,450
- CTR: 16%
Uncovered Campaign
- Reach: 352,867 doctors
- Impressions: 2,324,740
- Clicks/Interactions: 285,703
- CTR: 12%
- Qualified Leads: 240
The covered segment recorded a 16% CTR, indicating strong engagement among healthcare professionals already familiar with the product. Meanwhile, the uncovered segment reached 352,867 doctors and generated 2,324,740 impressions, demonstrating the campaign’s ability to expand visibility among a broader HCP audience.
The uncovered segment also generated 285,703 clicks, with a 12% CTR, reflecting substantial interaction with the educational content. Following tele-verification, the campaign generated 240 qualified leads from healthcare professionals who had actively engaged with the campaign and expressed interest in learning more about the product.
The highest impressions across both segments came from Maharashtra, followed by Delhi and West Bengal. Pediatricians and General Physicians were identified as the most engaged specialties, highlighting the relevance of the campaign among these audiences.
Overall, the campaign demonstrated the value of combining broad digital outreach with targeted engagement and a structured lead-verification process.
Conclusion
The campaign demonstrates how an omnichannel healthcare marketing strategy can balance large-scale audience reach with deeper engagement and qualified lead generation.
By segmenting healthcare professionals into covered and uncovered audiences, the campaign created opportunities to reinforce awareness among existing audiences while expanding communication to new doctors. Consistent educational content, delivered through multiple digital channels, helped generate substantial visibility and interaction across the targeted specialties.
With 352,867 uncovered doctors reached, 2,324,740 impressions, 285,703 clicks, a 12% CTR, and 240 qualified leads, the campaign highlights the potential of targeted digital engagement to identify healthcare professionals interested in further product information.
The results also underline the importance of audience segmentation, relevant educational content, and tele-verification in building a structured HCP engagement journey. Future campaigns can build on this approach by introducing targeted follow-ups to nurture uncovered audiences and convert initial interest into sustained engagement.
